Recipe: Savory Muffins

Gentle readers, this weekend your MatchGirl and Boyfriend entertained a few friends for what my little posse refers to as "drunk Easter." The tradition started many years ago, on an unusually bright and sunny Easter Sunday.

If memory serves, the first one involved a British fry up, some boys in pastel suits, a walk over the Williamsburg bridge, a rooftop sing-a-long in the East Village and perhaps some steaks... As it's "drunk Easter," it also involved the drinking of a bunch of alcohol, so you'll forgive my fuzzy memory.

Recipe: Nutella Oatmeal Cookies

Gentle readers, last week, Boyfriend was feeling a little down. So, even though we've been trying (optimal word, trying) to be healthy, your MatchGirl decided to make him some cookies to brighten his day.

I can't recall where this recipe came from, I've been making it for years - one time going so far as to make my own Nutella (costly and time consuming, just by some chocolate hazelnut spread at your local market - there are a couple of really good Polish ones I've found in Greenpoint).  Anyway, I jotted it down in a notebook, so therefore have no link back to the original creator of these yummy things.

Recipe: Aunt Addie's Pumpkin Cookies

Fall is in the air and that means it is time to bake cookies!

Every year at this time, your MatchGirl makes her Great-great Aunt Addie's famous (at least in her family) pumpkin cookies.

For you, gentle readers, I have decided to share this treasured recipe.

(Sorry, I don't have a photo of the cookies. As of this posting, I've been super sick and didn't have a chance to bake up a batch for you!)

Want: A New Oven

It's a Wifesaver!

Your MatchGirl saw this old advert while looking for images for Unemployed Brooklyn on the web. I couldn't help but share it here with you!

Inspiration: Ricotta Cookies with Cocoa & White Chocolate Chips

Your MatchGirl found this recipe for cookies made with ricotta, cocoa powder and white chocolate chips. While I'm not actually that concerned about lessening the fat content through the use of ricotta, I'm interested in the texture and the taste.

I haven't had a chance to bake them yet, but I think they'll be great.

What's your favorite cookie?

Menu Plan: Week Seventeen

Last week, gentle readers, we stuck pretty well to Menu Plan: Week Sixteen, though we switched some days up.

As we're still on a ridiculously tight budget, we thought long and hard about what we would be eating this week, about what we could take for lunches and how we could save some dough.

Want: New England Hot Dog Bun Pan

Gentle readers, your MatchGirl is from New England, where hot dog buns look kind of like a folded piece of thick white bread. Delicious slathered with butter and toasted on the griddle and then stuffed with a Fenway Frank is a vivid childhood memory. And, of course, this is the only way to present a true lobster roll. How cool would it be to have this bun pan so we could make our own?

Yum!
