Menu Plan: Greatest Hits

As you know, gentle readers, Boyfriend and your MatchGirl have been menu planning for thirty weeks now.

Wow.

And in all that menu planning, we've had some winners and we've certainly had some big misses.

Today's post shares the ones we've really enjoyed. The ones that we keep going back to, time and time again.

  • As Boyfriend mentioned on Monday, Posole has become a favorite.
  • Pizzas. Boyfriend buys dough from a neighborhood pizzeria and tops it with all sorts of fun stuff. We were inspired to try this by photos my friend David posted on Facebook of a four cheese/Brussel sprout/pancetta pizza his girlfriend had made (and she graciously shared her secret mix).
  • Kale and white beans with sausage and tomatoes. This is a recipe I started making before I even met Boyfriend, inspired by a recipe I found on Martha Stewart's website (you know I love Martha!).
  • Gojee has become the go-to website for inspiration during the meal planning process. Every recipe we've tried through it has come out great. (Seriously, it's so well curated, you're doing yourself a disservice if you're not playing around in it)
  • Boyfriend has become a master stock maker. When a recipe calls for stock, you can be sure that it's not out of a box, but out of our freezer, crafted by Boyfriend.
What recipes have you seen on our little site that you've been stoked to try? Have any become favorites in your home?

  1. How can I convince husband that meal planning is the way to go? We both get home from work tired and hungry and don't want to cook and never have any ideas...also, the baby needs to eat immediately. Too often we rely on take-out and frozen options. Not so good for our wallet and waistlines. How do you get inspired?

  2. Hi Tariann-

    Thanks for the comment.
We're at week 30, but it wasn't always an easy road. Boyfriend was not too keen on the idea of menu planning at the beginning either.
At the end of the day, though, if you can spend a little bit of time thinking about it on the weekend, then do your grocery shopping around the plan, when you come home from work, it will just be easier to make it happen.
There's no more thinking "hmm, what do I want for dinner?" feeling flummoxed and then ordering out for pizza or eating high-fat, high-sodium processed food from the fridge. You stick to the plan, and you eat healthy.
There are lost of shortcuts - pre-cut veggies, frozen veggies, etc... that make things a litte easier.
I'm lucky because Boyfriend finds cooking at the end of the work day relaxing - so he makes dinner most nights.
In the past, though, I have spent part of Sunday cooking for the week, then, when I got home from work, all I had to do was heat up a dish and sit down to dinner.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Thanks so much for reading!
