Vacationland

Gentle readers, your MatchGirl and Boyfriend spent the weekend apart. It's the first time, since we've moved in together that we've been apart.

I had the opportunity to travel to San Juan with some girlfriends for the holiday weekend - leaving at the crack of dawn (or a little before) on Saturday morning and landing in time to get back to Brooklyn for July 4th fireworks. I was reticent, at first, to go - as the expense was unplanned and as I hated to leave Boyfriend for the weekend.

But then I thought about it. The expense, though not budgeted, was not outside my reach. And the opportunity, to travel to a beach and drink rum on the sand (though it ended up raining most of the time) with two of my dearest friends was not likely to happen again any time in the near future. We're getting older, gentle readers, and life is moving forward. Times are changing. People are getting married. People are having kids. People are moving away for jobs or relationships or to see the world. The time in our lives where we can just get away with our friends and be silly and irresponsible and eat great food and lay on the beach and read - where we have no mortgages, no children, no "grown up" responsibilities calling our names ... This time, dear readers, is at an end.

Life moves on. And it's great when it does. But those changes in life are big and scary, as much as they are welcome and exciting. So when the opportunity arises, to just have a little fun, and forget about the world for a while, why not grab on and see where you go?
