Changing Routines

Freelancing (part time) from home probably brings to mind people in their PJs on a laptop all day. Maybe just rolling out of bed in time to make a 9AM Skype call ...

In my new-found position, it would be so easy to stay in bed till late in the morning. Heck, I could work from my bed if I was so inclined - it certainly is cozy.

But if one wants to get anywhere in this world, one has to be productive. For some that may mean staying up very late and working after everyone has gone to bed. For others, it means getting up at the crack of dawn and getting moving. I've always been more of the former, but, I'm not going to lie, I think I'm more productive when I do the latter.

When I was working full-time and commuting to Manhattan, I would wake up at the same time every day, hop in the shower, grab some coffee and be on my way. Boyfriend would leave sometime before me, as his day starts earlier. In the first days after my lay off, I stayed in bed till after Boyfriend left for work. Never sleeping in very late, but certainly not up and at 'em with the birds, either.

No more.

A new lifestyle demands a new discipline and a new discipline demands a new routine.

So, even though Boyfriend has to be up and at the office early, it will now be me you find, black coffee in hand, online early. The past few mornings I've managed this before Boyfriend's snooze even goes off.

Changing your routine takes discipline and repetition.

Let's see how long we can keep this going!
