Budget: Money Saving Tips

Gentle readers, your MatchGirl spent most of the weekend curled up in a feverish ball. I just didn't have the energy to go through the receipts and scan them.

So here's what we're doing to save money this week - what we try to do every week, but what we're committed to making happen this week.

Bringing coffee to work. Iced coffee costs, on average, $3/cup. Boyfriend made a cold brew concentrate and I have a re-usable cup, so I'll bring coffee to work daily.

Making food last a long time. We bought a big pork roast and we'll have it for at least three dinners, and there will be leftovers for lunches as well.

Lunch to work. I try really hard to always bring my lunch to work. This kind of stinks because it means I eat lunch at my desk, working. But it saves a lot of cash. Lunches near my work average about $10, minimum, a day. Bringing lunch, especially leftovers, saves at least $50/week.

Drinking less. This weekend, we laid low, due to my being sick and all, but we've cut back a bit on our alcohol consumption, both in and out of the house. I haven't done the math on how much we're saving, but drinks in NYC are pricey, to be sure. Having drinks at home is cheaper, of course, but I can't say how much we've saved. I never added it up before.

What are some of your tips for saving cash?
